Constitution

Aims

  1. To appreciate and promote the architectural and artistic accomplishments of R W Sampson.
  2. To produce a comprehensive list of properties designed by R W Sampson.
  3. To exercise a watching brief with regard to planning matters relating to Sampson properties including Conservation Statements and Reviews.
  4. To hold an annual luncheon or dinner to celebrate the life of R W Sampson plus other social events from time to time.

Membership

  1. Membership is open to all those interested in the life and work of R W Sampson.
  2. An Application form should be completed and returned to the Secretary, details below.
  3. Life Membership costs £30.00 plus £15 for each additional family member. Corporate Membership (for companies, hotels, clubs, societies etc) is available at £25 per year. Membership fees are subject to review at the Annual General Meeting.

Administration

  1. All monies received are banked in an account in the name of “The Sampson Society” and are held on behalf of the members of the Society.
  2. Monies in the Society’s account may be used for out of pocket expenses incurred in running the Society, including the enhancement of any annual lunch or dinner, as authorised by the Committee.
  3. A simple income and expenditure account will be produced annually and will be available for inspection by members of the Society.
  4. The Society’s year-end is 31 August and an Annual General Meeting shall be held within three months of the year end.
  5. The Committee, of up to four members, and three Officers are elected for 2-year terms and are eligible for re-election. Anyone co-opted to fill a vacancy is eligible to stand for election at the following AGM. 
  6. A Quorum for a Committee meeting is three members.
  7. A Quorum for an AGM is ten members.
  8. If there is no quorum any meeting will be deferred for two weeks, at the same place and time, when the members present shall constitute a quorum.
  9. This Constitution may be amended on a show of hands at any Annual General Meeting.

Termination

  1. If the number of members of the Society falls below ten or in the event of the Society ceasing to exist for any other reason any monies in the Society’s account shall be passed to Sidmouth Museum for the benefit of its general fund.
