Alma Bridge
The storm damaged remains of the elegant Sampson Alma Bridge were sadly demolished in May 2020, ready for the modern replacement to take its place later in the summer .
Sampson designed his bridge in 1900 to replace the previous wooden bridge erected in 1855, and named after the famous battle of the Crimean War.
Sampson is shown in the photo during the building of his bridge.
Work in progress - May 2020
As a respect to the memory of the lost 'Sampson' Bridge, a brick information pier will be built on the original site .
This will incorporate finials and coping stones saved from Sampson's Bridge.
